Sarah O'Halloran : 'Tell Me'
Tell Me is a sound installation about sharing secrets, with the tea chest itself acting as a confident for those who visit the installation. People will be invited to lean in and tell a secret to the tea chest, which will tell them a secret in turn. The installation's 'default sounds' will feature whispered invitations to reveal, to share, and to listen. The physical appearance of the tea chest will be quite simple using textiles and other materials to conceal the 'guts' of the installation (the speakers & microphone), and lead each participant to lean in, allowing them to disclose their secret quietly, and to hear the softly spoken secret that the tea chest reveals. |

I am making a church interior inside the chest space. The space is a reminder of inner contemplation and peace. The space will be a hybrid of church and scientific laboratory. This idea stemmed from looking at similarities between the church and science in their quest for the secret of life. Each entity continually searches for reasons for life and our place in the world. |

Victoria Dempsey: 'To Carry a Secret'
This is a closely guarded secret, one life guards another and acts as a sacred vessel, a temple, generating life, keeping it warm and safe from harm until it is ready to greet the world. |

For our piece we have chosen Bere Island, a small island off the coast of Ireland, as our point of focus. The Island hosts a unique social environment due to its isolation from the mainland which results in relaxed laws, poor infrastructure and limited services to the mainland. The island has retained an age of Ireland that has long since left the mainland. Our piece will be a sound recording that builds on the phonographic landscape of the island and will be layered with dialogue from island inhabitants to build a complete audio recording of life on the island that shows its forgotten past and to reveal its secrets. |

When would you share your secret? Our idea is about sharing stories over a cup of tea and biscuits with family and friends. We will place tea pots into a tea chest and have a recorded conversation of a younger person talking to an older person and sharing stories and secrets while having a cup of tea. The viewer will be able to hear these secret conversations and share in the experience. We think that the idea of having a cup of tea and sharing stories is one that no matter the nationality, one will understand and enjoy. |
